Afterpay is a “Buy Now, Pay Later” (BNPL) service that allows users to make purchases and pay for them in installments over time.
It’s available for WooCommerce merchants with stores in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. In the United Kingdom, Afterpay is known as Clearpay.
This payment gateway offers two ways to Buy Now Pay Later:
- Pay in 4: Split payments into four interest-free, payable in bi-weekly installments.
- Monthly Installments: Pay over 6 or 12 months with interest (available in the U.S., excluding West Virginia, New Mexico, Nevada, and Hawaii).
FunnelKitPay offers seamless integration with AfterPay on a WooCommerce store.
Requirements
Here are the essentials needed to set up AfterPay payments in WooCommerce:
- Installed and activated FunnelKit Pay
- Activated AfterPay from your Stripe account
- A valid SSL certificate
- Store currency in USD, CAD, GBP, AUD, or NZD
- The customer’s billing/shipping address should be from Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom.
Configuration
Follow the instructions to set up AfterPay payments in your store with FunnelKit Pay:
Step 1: Enable the AfterPay payment gateway in WooCommerce settings
Navigate to WooCommerce ⇒ Settings ⇒ Payments tab.
Look for “AfterPay Gateway – AfterPay – Pay Over Time” and hit the button “Finish Setup” next to it.
Next, check the option – Enable AfterPay Gateway.
This will enable Afterpay Gateway on your WooCommerce store.
Step 2: Configure the Afterpay payment gateway options
Customize the following options to configure the Afterpay payment gateway:
- Title: Add the title that will be shown on the checkout page for Afterpay Gateway.
- Description: Enter the description text below the title of the Afterpay payment method on the checkout page.
- AfterPay message location: Afterpay’s payment options include a customizable message. Choose the specific pages (Product, Cart, or Shop/Category pages) where you’d like the Afterpay payment message to appear on your WooCommerce store.
- Selling location(s): Choose the option “Sell to specific countries”.
- Sell to specific countries: Select the specific countries you sell to.
This is the AfterPay message which appears on the pages you specified:
Once done, click on Save changes.

Testing
To test the AfterPay payment method, put your website in the ‘Test’ mode from the WooCommerce payment settings.
🔔 Note: We recommend you to use the “Test Mode (For administrators)” for testing. This enables Test mode for admin users only; while other users like your shoppers remain in live mode.
Now, on the incognito window, go to your store and go to the product page. Then, add the item to your shopping cart and head over to the checkout page:
On the checkout page, choose the option “Afterpay – Pay Over Time Afterpay” to checkout.
Since you’re in the test mode, you’ll be directed to Afterpay Clearpay test payment page with two options: Authorize test payment and Fail test payment.
If you choose to authorize test payment, you will be redirected to the thank you page.
